Early Days

When you see the brand SKECHERS, you don’t immediately think grunge do you? Established in 1992 by Robert Greenberg, SKECHERS were initially meant to be the American distributor of Dr Marten shoes. When that plan didn’t work out, Greenberg leapt head first into the street shoes market instead. This was at a time when the big brands like Nike were focusing on sports shoes. Greenberg saw an opportunity to make some fashion forward footwear and ran with it (pardon the pun).

So what does SKECHERS have to do with grunge?

During the 1990s the grunge aesthetic was very popular, knowing that, SKECHERS released the “Chrome Dome” - a trainer that was designed to look artfully scuffed and worn in. The Chrome Dome soon became a firm favourite, but SKECHERS wasn’t just a one hit wonder either, the Cascades Logger boot was another popular grunge-inspired shoe that helped SKECHERS to grow as a brand.

Stepping Out

Greenberg took his already extremely comfortable SKECHERS and branched out into the athletic shoe market, creating the GOwalk. To this day their GOwalk shoes are one of their most popular products.

So what makes the GOwalk collection so popular? GOwalk shoes have a cushioned insole that make you feel as if you’re walking on clouds and a breathable upper so you can walk for miles with no problems.

SKECHERS even have a line of high performance activewear so you can wear the brand from head-to-toe.

The brand isn’t just for adults either; they have a range of adorable kids shoes and their Twinkle Toes line of shoes are every little girl's dream.

It’s Britney

So who are the famous faces who have been spotted wearing SKECHERS? In 1999 Britney Spears became the first international spokesperson for SKECHERS. Since then plenty of famous faces, and feet, have followed in Britney's footsteps, including; Demi Lovato, Camilla Cabello, and Ringo Starr.
